Hospitality Wins Guests Over
Actually, pampering begins before you arrive. How? It’s through what we call “2nd mile” hospitality. Blessings on State hosts do much more that expected to win guests over.
At first contact you notice the hosts are kind, caring, and attentive. They listen, ask questions, and from there, perceive your needs. Such as:
1-Noting that you will arrive in time for dinner, they offer to set up reservations at a local restaurant.
2-Finding out that cookies and milk are part of your evening routine, you'll find a jar filled with delicious warm cookies and bottle of milk outside your suite.

One of five tiled fireplaces in the mansion is in the Serenity Suite.

Private sitting area attached to the Serenity Suite is a perfect place to catch up on reading.
3-Asking about your plans during your stay, they offer suggestions on sites to see, places to shop, and experiences you would enjoy.
And these are just three of many examples. By the way, Blessings on State partners with local businesses they trust who will also pamper you. How's that for community teamwork!

Little Things Make a Big Difference
Owner and innkeeper, Gwenn Eyer, has a goal regarding hospitality. She knows little things make a big difference.
Gwenn said, “We are all trained in how to handle guests. Everybody knows what the expectations are, not just housekeeping, not just meeting needs when they make a request—how to greet them, how to show them around, how to make them feel welcome and comfortable here. That’s so important to me.”
From luxurious bedding to bath salts to breakfast on china—it’s this special kind of hospitality that win guests over.

Guests enjoy a delicious gourmet, 2-course breakfast. It is always served on fine china with silver and glassware on a beautifully decorated table.

Spacious parlor has rich wood flooring and fine furniture, befitting a stately elegant Victorian era home.
Stately, Elegant Vintage Mansion
Built in the late 1880’s, this stately Victorian mansion-turned-B&B has retained its past elegance. Today, Blessings on State guests still enjoy luxurious surroundings of yesteryear. What makes it so?
It’s the stunning architectural woodwork details found in each spacious room. Also, the tiled fireplaces, chandeliers, and fine furniture create a feeling of elegance.

Original 1880's staircase and flooring adorns the Grand Entry.

Parlor seating, both comfy and attractive, entices guests to visit with one another.
With attention to comfort, Blessings on State décor is charming and cozy. Furnished with both a mix of ornate antiques and newer traditional pieces, the rooms are pleasant without being stuffy. It’s just enough!

Exquisite, fine furniture fills the elegant dining room.

Guests may enjoy soft music from the player piano or play the piano themselves.
Ambiance Keeps Guests Coming Back
From the dictionary, ambiance is “the character and atmosphere of a place.” Gwenn and Glenn understand how to effectively use this tool. How? Through seasonal décor, providing all the comforts of home, and adding beautiful music to the mix.
As an example, breakfast had us feeling extra pampered. The table for two by the window was beautifully set. Soft music was playing in the background. Our hosts served breakfast as if we were in an upscale restaurant. The mood made the meal both enjoyable and relaxing.
Blessings on State couples ambiance with superb hospitality and elegant surroundings. This combination is what keeps their guests coming back over and over again.

Decor creates ambiance, noting things of most importance – love, family, and nature.

Worth the Detour
So have we convinced you Blessings on State is worth the detour? We think it is.
With all this in mind, why not escape standard hotel rooms and enjoy pampered luxury at the same time? It’s like going to visit your dear friends and getting to spend memorable time in a small Midwestern town
After all, the foyer sign reads, “Come as Strangers, Leave as Friends.” We did.

About the Owners
Meet Glenn and Gwenn Eyer, the owners and innkeepers of Blessings on State Bed and Breakfast. They are two very service-oriented people with the kindest hearts.
Having grown up in the Midwest, hospitality is in Gwenn’s blood. She jokingly calls it the family “hospitality gene.” Gwenn learned at an early age about hosting guests. Everyone was welcome in her parents’ home.
After her 1st stay at a B&B, Gwenn had a dream of one day doing the same. Her dream was finally realized when Blessings on State opened in May 2008.
Teamwork has been one of the keys to their success. Gwenn says, “Glenn is the ‘out’ keeper. I’m the ‘in’ keeper.” Along with family members and exceptional staff, they provide amazing service for guests who definitely enjoy pampered luxury.
**Thank you to Gwenn, Glenn, and Casey for the interview and allowing us to photograph your B&B for our Worthy Detours Travel Blog. Also, thank you for your kindness in providing our overnight stay and delicious breakfast!
